Project: Space trusses for the sports park swimming hall

Four massive space trusses were manufactured from start to finish for the Kouvola Sports Park swimming hall. A total of 60,000 kilograms of steel was used in these impressive structures, which gives an idea of their scale and the demands they placed on both manufacturing and installation. After the steel structures were joined, each truss was carefully sandblasted with an aluminum alloy and finished with a durable surface treatment. The result was a pure white RAL 9010 surface that fits in with the modern architecture of the swimming hall.

Project: Manufacture of various storage tanks

Reliable tank manufacturing globally!

The past year 2025 has been active and diverse from a production perspective. During the year, we manufactured a total of approximately 20 horizontal and vertical tanks for various applications. The tanks were delivered in a wide range of sizes from 10 m³ to 1500 m³ for the storage of liquid substances such as water and oil. The tanks were manufactured in accordance with the API650 and SFS-EN 14015 standards.

The manufacture of the tanks began with a careful selection of materials. The steel plates were pre-treated and mended, i.e., bent into the shape of the tank shell and bottom structures. The shaped parts were assembled and welded in accordance with certified welding procedures (WPS). All necessary connections and fittings, such as flanges, manholes, pipe connections, and reinforcements, were installed in the tanks in accordance with customer-specific plans. The tanks were finished with surface treatment methods selected according to the application and environmental conditions, including spray cleaning and multi-layer corrosion protection coatings.

The manufacturing time varied between approximately 6 and 9 weeks, depending on the complexity of the tanks, which required flexible production planning and efficient project management from the supervisors in the midst of a busy schedule. As part of the overall deliveries, we also manufactured suction heaters and pressure piping that met PED requirements.

These projects demonstrate our ability to respond reliably and on schedule to the needs of international customers, even when the deliveries are technically demanding.

Project: New wastewater treatment plant in Tohmajärvi

Kreate Oy carried out the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Tohmajärvi. The project started in early 2025, and construction was estimated to take 1.5–2 years, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026.
The new treatment plant was built to replace the oldest treatment plant in North Karelia, which was completed in 1978.

The project also included the demolition of the old plant.
The new plant was designed to treat wastewater from 3,000 residents and does not accept industrial wastewater.
The implementation planning for the project began in 2023 and was completed at the end of the same year. The planning included determining the building’s structures, foundation method, room layout, and technical systems.

Kuopion Rakenneasennus was responsible for the manufacture, delivery, and installation of the steel structures for the new wastewater treatment plant in Tohmajärvi. We manufactured all the steel structures and carried out the necessary lifting work with our own truck.

The steel structures included in the delivery were NDT-inspected, including:

  • Pillars, beams, diagonal supports, crane rails, maintenance platforms, railings, and hat trusses. These were hot-dip galvanized according to the customer’s wishes.

Kuopion Rakenneasennus completed the project in accordance with the requirements, on schedule, and as part of a larger project.

Client: City of Savonlinna
Project: Savonlinna bridge project

The aim was to develop the Savonlinna market square and harbor area to make it more functional, which is why a new light traffic bridge was built over Haapasalmi to connect the market square and the opposite shore of Puistokatu.

We manufactured the 120-meter-long arch bridge in several parts in our hall. The finished structures were hot-dip galvanized and painted by a subcontractor, after which the frame parts were test assembled in our yard to ensure their fit and quality before delivery.

In Savonlinna, the frame elements were installed in place and finished with wooden cladding, which gives the bridge both durability and an aesthetically pleasing appearance in its surroundings. The project was carried out in close cooperation with various parties, ensuring that the bridge was commissioned on schedule.

Client: Lehtoniemi wastewater treatment plant
Project: Extensive renovation of wastewater treatment plant

The Lehtoniemi wastewater treatment plant underwent extensive renovation between 2013 and 2015. The renovation included the expansion of the plant’s biological treatment process, the construction of a new post-treatment unit, and the replacement of old process machinery and equipment.

We manufactured a wide range of steel structures for the project, including steel frames for the maintenance building and storage building, as well as railings and maintenance platforms for the treatment tanks. As part of the renovation, we also carried out maintenance work on the gasometer. We filled the gasometer with biogas, after which the tank was lifted and supported while the pipes were replaced.

We are proud to be involved in developing the infrastructure of the Lehtoniemi wastewater treatment plant and supporting its efficient and sustainable operation.

Project: Advertising tower for Prisma in Imatra

We manufactured the entire advertising tower for the new Prisma in Imatra at our own engineering workshop.
After manufacturing the structure, the tower was surface-treated in our paint shop with quick-drying, flexible polyurethane paint in the shade #MKLVALKOINEN, after which the advertisements were installed. The finished tower was delivered to the construction site and lifted into place.

Project: Manufacture of a bark cyclone

The bark cyclone used at Savon Sellu’s power plant efficiently transports bark, which is used as fuel, forward in the process. We manufactured a new bark cyclone from stainless steel at our machine shop, ensuring its durability in demanding operating conditions.

As the cyclone is exposed to severe abrasive wear, its inner surface was lined with specially manufactured wear plates by welding, which extends the service life of the structure. During installation, we removed the old cyclone and optimized the alignment of the shell inlet pipe to minimize wear and improve the reliability of the equipment.

Project: Reinforcement of the sports hall roof

Reinforcement of the Lahti Sports Hall roof became necessary because measurements showed that the old tension rods had deteriorated and cracks had appeared in the surrounding concrete structures. To solve these structural challenges, new plate-structured tie rods were manufactured alongside the tie rods supporting the roof of the main grandstand and the top floor of the sports center.

Plate enclosures were manufactured for the roof on top of the plate pillars and roof beams, which were connected with tie rods. We reinforced the roof with a total of 76 tons of steel, ensuring the durability and safety of the structure far into the future.

We are proud to be involved in improving the structural durability of the Lahti Sports Hall and supporting the continuity of sports activities.

Project: Repair of the composite beam bridge in Madesalmi

The repair of the composite beam bridge in Madesalmi became necessary when heavier and taller trucks were permitted. We manufactured the steel frame for the composite beam bridge in Madesalmi in 2014.

  • Width: 4.65 meters

The bridge frame was manufactured as a complete assembly at the factory. The entire structure was surface-treated in our own paint shop before delivery. The surface treatment was carried out in accordance with the site requirements and industry standards.

Delivery and installation:

The finished bridge frame was delivered to the site by special transport. At the site, the structure was lifted into place on top of the renewed bearing pads. The lifting was carried out according to plan using suitable lifting equipment. During installation, the frame was secured in its final position and the correct installation tolerances were ensured.

As a result of the repair project, the Madesalmi bridge can now carry larger and heavier vehicles than before, improving traffic flow and safety. This project demonstrated the durability and efficiency of steel structures in bridge construction and how proactive maintenance and upgrades can extend the service life of infrastructure.

Project: Improvement work on the Kotka railway section

The improvement work on the Kotka railway section included the construction of a new concrete and steel railway bridge and the replacement of railway tracks over a large area.
We manufactured a new steel bridge for the railway section, which weighed 68 tons and had a significantly improved load-bearing capacity compared to the previous bridge.

  • The bridge frame was manufactured and painted at our engineering workshop
  • The bridge was also equipped with a hot-dip galvanized maintenance platform
  • It was fully assembled before delivery to the construction site
  • At the construction site, the old riveted bridge and bearing structures were removed
  • After this, the new bearing plates were welded into place and the bridge frame could be installed.

    The demolition of the old bridge and the installation of the new bridge were carried out efficiently during a 24-hour traffic interruption, ensuring the smooth flow of train traffic with as little disruption as possible.
